Organ recipients die
Published 1 year, 8 months ago in Making News.I see Leader has been running stories about three people who died after receiving organs from the same donor. There is apparently a big investigation underway by the coroner into this. If they find that the donor had unfit organs it must raise questions about the safety of the organ donor system in Australia. If any organ recipient has ever had any bad experiences related to organ donation I’d like to hear more about it. OR if anyone has some inside knowledge about this case I’d like to hear that too.

Well , It seems that the screening process may need some fine tuning , but overwhelmingly the Most common bad Experience for people on the organ donor WAITING list , is that they die without obtaining an organ.
I hope the coroner can find a common cause, it would be a pity for this program to be quashed because of someone’s laziness or apathy. There are set policies & procedures that must be followed to safeguard recipients lives… is this another case of self regulations not working?
I just can’t believe this can happen! Given how stringent the rules are for giving blood, I find it hard to believe our health system could put diseased organs in people. The poor things…
Yes Cacophony, spot on. It certainly sounds like something must have gone wrong with the checking process. The patients who died were tested for rabies but apparently it was ruled out that the donor had this condition.
