Iraq

Should Australia pull the troops out of Iraq? I say yes, there’s nothing to be achieved over there.

I don’t see why the coalition’s support for a so called ‘enforced democracy’ in Iraq - led by the Americans’ - should be expressed through the provision of military assistance.
I was reading about Howard’s criticism of US Democrat Barack Obama’s policy to pull US troops out of Iraq by March 2008 if elected as president in upcoming elections…

Howard claims that pulling out of the war (supposedly against the al qaeda) would only result in an outcome of defeat (for the West).
So what is he really saying? The way I understand it - he is saying that for the US and their allies to back down from this war - that they are seen as losers.
Lose your goddamn pride Western world - let go of this pathetic attitude surrounding your strength and domination.

Whatever happenned to the concept that ‘refusing to fight’ was brave and courageous, and noble?
Isn’t it bloody obvious that through refusing to back down -the West turn themselves into the same sort of terrorists as those they hunt?
In fact - it is even worse that a group of so called intellectual educated men in the twenty first century, provided with the knowledge and history of humankind’s dismal war stories, and such a variety of resources unavailable to those in the Middle East would choose to react to these people who are so vastly different to themselves with bloody war?
War is the language of neanderthals, of beasts, of primitive or basic intelligence.
I admit that humans have proven that we are still beasts, and yes, we are animals, yet we have this magnificent gift of intelligence that we are using to what purpose in this world?
We understand Bush’s agenda and the need for them to secure oil, etc. etc. We understand that it may be important for Australia to maintain a united relationship with the US, etc. etc. Perhaps in these subjects there are some reasons for their involvement in “other people’s territory”.

I read somewhere (uncited) that Alaska is a huge oil field owned by the US - and that ultimately after they have drained and raped the Persian Gulf supplies - hoorah - they will be sitting on the largest left oil reserves globally.
I do not know how true this is, but it would be worth finding out more about this idea.

War is highly unsophisticated, not to mention horrific, terribly sad and disturbing. Looking at history, and analysing what benefits have come out of warfare in the context of the horror endured by civillians, landscapes and environments (chemical usage, large scale explosions, harm to innocent animals, the killing of millions) I find it absolutely stunning that the Western world with their education and perspective would considering resorting to war even slightly acceptable.

Of course this war needs to end - in saying that - the conflict will still of course be there - but we must advance ourselves as intelligent human beings and devise other methods of dealing with such problems.
This Iraq war is not a war on terrorism. It is a war on religious war and primarily, a war about pushing one group’s way of life onto another’s.
What can these two very diffrent cultures learn from each other through a non hostile relationship? Is it possible?

The Australian Defence Force seems to spend most of its time overseas doesn’t it?

YES………..We shouldn’t have gone to invade a sovereign country in an illegal war in the first place.

See you all at the Global Protest, March 17th, Noon at the State Library….We have a voice, and we can get together and show what we want. There’s no use being silent and hope it just goes away. To quote an old cd i have about the American civil war…”There ain’t no chance for us to win this, there won’t be no victory dance at the finish….it’s just stubborn pride, stubborn blindness……it take’s a brave man to end this killing, but we’re fighting still…” War protest songs motivate me, and i do trust that by speaking up eventually change will come.
